Donna
Murray is a self-taught horsehair hitcher and braider, who resides in
Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada. She started working with horsehair in 1992
and, with patience and perseverance, has learned to create high-quality,
functional items.
In the past, Donna spent her time training horses and working as a farrier (a person who makes and fits horseshoes). She had always been interested in horsehair work, but lacked the necessary time to pursue it. When her lifestyle changed, Donna used the opportunity to learn this ancient craft.
Each piece is handcrafted, beginning with the preparation of the hair, to the
completion of the finishing knots. Donna enjoys the challenges and
creative possibilities that are involved in working with horsehair.
