A little background on 'The Moose'
In September of 1999, my younger brother Mike approached me about marketing different products on the Internet.  Mike (who owns a construction company in Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada) had come across some fine vendors, doing some pretty cool things with different mediums.  As I was already running DERBY Systems Group Limited, a computer software consulting company in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, and had been itching to get into the web development arena, we thought putting these products on the Web was a good way to get started.

After a few discussions about a company name, we came up with 'Canadian Moose'.  For years now (and there are many photographs to prove it!...check out the one above!), I have been giving 'Canadian Moose antlers' to unsuspecting souls when photos were being taken (you are probably familiar with the dreaded 'rabbit ears' / 'peace sign' used in photos: it's the same idea).  The company name became 'CanadianMoose.com' (to take advantage of the instant name recognition when using the Internet) and the company was incorporated on March 20th, 2000.

The response to 'The Moose' has been incredible.  Everyone knows a moose: from Bullwinkle (the sidekick of Rocky, the flying squirrel) to Chocolate (the Beanie Baby), and beyond.  And what a great symbol to promote Canada!  We designed Mikey (our own moose) and hope he will become a well-known symbol, too!

Our boy: Mikey Moose

Where we are / Where we are going
What started out as a single thought has blossomed into a mammoth project.  CanadianMoose.com is proud to present many fine products (some hand-made, some manufactured), produced by incredibly talented vendors.  The quality of work and artistic prowess of our vendors is phenomenal.  And like any undertaking, quality and success attracts more quality, success, and interest.  Where we first had to almost beg vendors to let us show their works, we are now approached by vendors who would love to have their products included on 'The Moose'!  We are interested in adding as many diverse disciplines as we can but it is a time consuming process.  Please be patient with us if you come across a 'Coming Soon' note on our web site.

Technology
We have done a lot of research on the Internet, comparing a lot of different companies (not just Canadian companies).  Current technology allows for a very simple 'shopping cart' ordering process (as long as the goods are to be shipped to Canada and the United States).  The technology does not allow for 'shopping cart' ordering to countries other than Canada and the United States (because of the unknown shipping costs to send products to each different country).

We, at CanadianMoose.com, want to be able to present our products to every country on our planet.  Therefore, we have chosen a more time consuming (for us, as well as you) 'semi-automated' method of ordering.  When you order, you will be provided with an 'on-line' order form where you type in your selections (which will then be automatically sent to us).  What convenience is lost is quickly gained back with the global availability of our productsAs of 2009/09/04, we are slowly implementing a 'shopping cart' system (with PayPal &/or credit cards).  Please bear with us during this time.

For international orders, we have to determine the exact shipping costs before we can send you our products.  The shipping issues are sometimes difficult but if we can send people to the moon (NASA has done that, not us!) surely, we can ship some Moose Mugs to Australia (and we have!).

We are sure that the technology will advance soon enough to allow automated ordering to anywhere on the planet.  Rest assured, we will be taking advantage of that technology as soon as it presents itself.

Dot-Com Hype
Unlike all the hype about today's 'dot-com' companies, CanadianMoose.com is not about a 'dot-com' company.  We are about a company using the technology (the Internet) that is available to 'dot-coms' and marrying it to fine products, to satisfy you, our customer.  We want to provide the same level of service you would expect from a store right down the street from you.  Like the old saying goes, "If you like our service, please tell your friends.  If not, then please tell us.  We will make it right."

In conclusion, we would like to thank all those who provided support and showed patience during the growing process of CanadianMoose.com.  We truly appreciate it.  If you would like to see something added to the site or know of someone whose talents would fit in with what we are providing, please contact us (or get them to take a look and see what we offer).  There's always room for more artistic quality.  If you feel so inclined, please contact us with your feedback on our site (good or bad!).  We can only improve the site if you let us know what needs improving.  We will be continually updating our site, so please keep checking back.

Thanks for visiting and drop by again soon!
